Delhi, has become one of the most historic cities in the world, and therefore offers many possibilities for tourism. Dating from the sixth century BC, which has hosted dynasties over time, and saw a succession of kings and queens come and go. His story is as layered as its architecture, which survive and become a tourist center.
It is not just a place where the shadows of the past have found rest, is also the modern capital of the world's largest democracy. Delhi offers a rich variety of images and sounds for any visitor. It is also rich for the modern tourist and the tourist who comes to searching for the story.
For the tourist who comes for the history, Delhi offers a view of several layers. The city has its first mention in the Mahabharata, but nothing of that time are still the delight of tourists and to boost the tourism industry.
During the medieval period Delhi was captured by Muslims invading armies coming from central Asia. The first ruler, Qutub-uddin-Aibak founded the sultanate of Delhi. In addition to other buildings, built the Qutub Minar, one of the most remarkable buildings of that era, and a favorite tourist site now. The city was founded in the southern part of the city today and the remains of the fortifications built during that period can still be seen. It is a very visited by tourists and maintained by the Government for tourism.
The second most important dynasty to rule Delhi was the Mughal dynasty. The dynasty reached the height of its culture during the reign of Shah Jahan. He rebuilt the city as Jahanabad Shah, who is now on the western side of the current city. This walled city, the doors of which are still standing, is the site of many ancient and medieval architecture. Of these, the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Guru Sahib Gurudwara Shish Ganj are the most popular tourist attractions.
This city was the capital of the Mughal Empire in India from 1649 until 1857, although in the latter part of this period was the capital in name only. It is perhaps the most important area from the point of view of tourism.
The British, who ruled much of India of 18 years and during the 19 th century had its capital in Calcutta until King George decided to return to New Delhi in 1911. A brand new city was built south of Old Delhi, with its center at Connaught Palace, and surrounding areas. This is the second most important area from the point of view of tourism. This is also the area which houses the president's palace, India Gate, Delhi Lutyens (almost a permanent fixture on any tourist itinerary), the House of Parliament, the Supreme Court and many more. These buildings, built during the Raj era, now serve as administrative and political hub of India. This area is a major tourist attraction not only for its old buildings, but also by the commercial opportunities offered.
Connaught Palace itself was built in the form of concentric circles. Now is a business area and market, and has molded self-consciousness as a center of tourism.
